In 1992, Lesley McGinnis, a Garland ISD teacher, noticed the growing popularity of in-line skating in local neighborhoods. An idea came to her...what a great opportunity for her students to learn to in-line skate during their P.E. classes. She soon found out that the cost of equipment and maintenance was prohibitive for such a program to be offered to her students. However, if the students rented the equipment for the in-line skating unit then perhaps it would be a feasible activity!
And with that...In-line Skating 101 was created.
Starting in the Dallas metropolitan area, the word soon spread and offices were opened to provide programs in the Houston and Austin/San Antonio areas; 18 years later, growth is still progressing throughout Texas.
From the very beginning, In-line Skating 101 was, and still is, committed to providing safety first. Full safety gear is provided for each student along with a skate of their requested size. Skates, safety gear and teacher information are continuously updated for ease of implementation and to keep up with current skating trends.
